WoW Armory WP Plugin

Monday, December 29th, 2008

I’ve created a Wordpress Plugin, called (creatively) wow-armory.
You can see it in action over on the right.
This is my first attempt at a real Plugin, and I’m fairly happy with it… also, delving into the realm of PHP, AJAX, and XML again after a long absence has started me thinking about other applications… unfortunately, I’ve become familiar with the fact that these ideas will never happen…
Anyway, if you use Wordpress, and would like to use this Plugin, you can download it from Wordpress.org, here.

Note: Please comment on the wow-armory WP Plugin Page, so I can keep track of my replies better. Thanks!

Tutorial: Show D&D Icon Font on Page using FLIR

Tuesday, October 14th, 2008

I was playing with some options for my D&D Adventure, and was getting annoyed by one of the oldest, and most annoying limitations in web technology: fonts. Specifically, I have a font that is made up soley of the 4E Icons for Attacks and stuff, and could not get it to appear at all. There’s never been a simple way to get a font to show up on your page that the visitor does not already have installed. I tried making images out of the font, but couldn’t get the size or the placement to work correctly.  It was very frustrating.  I think I ended up posting my Titanic Shark using the images I had made, but it stopped working after I moved hosts.

Then, earlier in the week, I came across an article that talked about something called FLIR.  Impressed, and a little jealous that I had not thought of that technique before, back when I was dabbling in GD for a WoW Signature application that I started, but never finished, I decided to give it a try.  Unfortunately, neither the article itself, nor the documentation for FLIR was detailed enough to allow me to circumvent a few minor pitfalls without experementing, so I thought I would share what I learned.  Hopefully it will help anyone else out there with a D&D Blog or website.

Campaigning

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008

In planning for my upcoming PbP Campaign, I’ve started writing up the Adventure that I want to use for the Campaign.  It’s turning out much better than I had planned (maybe I have a knack for this ‘writing thing’ afterall ;) ).  So, I’m wondering how I can refine my adventure, once it’s finished, to be viable for other people to use?

PbP D&D Forum Launches

Saturday, September 20th, 2008

I went ahead and started a forum for PbP RPGs (mostly D&D, I’d imagine, but we’ll see).

I’m planning to start up a campaign soon in order to test everything out.  If you’re interested in playing, head on over and register!

…gonna need a bigger boat…

Monday, September 15th, 2008

It’s Dire Shark Week, so I came up with a Shark that is sure to frighten you D&D players:

Basically, it’s just a regular, Medium shark with the Titanic Template applied… but it should give your players a challenge, fighting this thing in the water.  Note: this is a 4e monster, that I created using the Monster Maker from Asmor.com… I assume it’s correct, but I’m not sure, mostly because I just haven’t had a chance to really play any 4e.  Suggestions for Improvement are appreciated.

Titanic Shark Level 20 Brute
Gargantuan Natural Beast XP 2,800
Initiative +10 Senses Perception +11
HP 237; Bloodied 118

Speed 60

r Trample (Standard; encounter)
