Updates from Azeroth

Wednesday, July 8th, 2009

I’ve been playing more WoW again lately – running Heroics with my new Guild, and getting some loot.
I’ve also been working on my Warlock, who’d previously been stuck in Nagrand for several months.
I just got her to 70 last night, thanks to an Heirloom item and the acompanying +10% Experience bonus :)
Also, I picked up 2 of the Drake Mounts on Vaire in the last couple of days: the Bronze Drake from Heroic Culling of Stratholme, and the Red one from getting Exalted with the Wyrmrest Accord!
I’m just waiting for the Green Proto-drake to hatch out of an egg… someday.

Statuses

Thursday, May 28th, 2009

I’ve been working on a few things lately, but nothing that’s finished yet.

  • Working on several work-related projects, which have been keeping me busy.
  • Working on the wow-armory plugin a little, getting it ready for a new release.
  • Trying to work on a new version of the wow-guild plugin, but I haven’t had much time to look at it.
  • Trying to work on a variety of writing projects, but these always seem to fall by the wayside.
  • Working on a board game concept which will hopefully become a reality some time in the future.

So, things have been pretty crazy… I want to finish up the D&D Adventure special and get it all the way posted, so I’ll try to post another installment tomorrow. I also want to get back to posting Monday Monsters, but I haven’t come up with any good ones lately…

Finally, the contest is still going on, but I only have one entry so far… please comment by June 8th for your chance to win one of the (small) prizes…

wow-guild Plugin v1.5 Update

Friday, April 17th, 2009

Sorry it took so long to get this fixed, the problem was entirely my fault, but it was sort of hidden out of the way.
Anyway, this plugin now correctly works with Realms that have apostrophes in the name.

As always, please direct any questions or comments to the wow-guild Plugin Page. Thanks!

Updates + the future

Saturday, March 14th, 2009

First, as much as I would like to revamp my whole site, it is more and more evident that it’s not going to be possible to do so right now – I simply do not have the time or energy to pull it off, and there are many other things I would like to do that take less time to implement. That being said, I have updated to the latest version of iNove, and have made a few changes to customize things… unfortunately, some of the JavaScript in the theme has stopped working, but I’m working on a solution.

I’ve received a few different suggestions and requests for changes to the wow-guild plugin. I’m working on a major version update to the plugin, and I will be taking these suggestions into account. If you have anything you would like to see added to either plugin, please let me know. I plan to add an option to filter out characters below a certain rank, and, if possible, grab more info about each individual character.

As always, I keep thinking of ideas of things that I would like to work on… (more…)

wow-armory 2.9 Update

Wednesday, March 11th, 2009

I made some changes to the wow-armory plugin, thanks to Joost de Valk!

I switched from using cURL to Snoopy, which should help with grabbing the data from the Armory.

I also changed the Cache time to 15 minutes, which should cut down on the number of requests to the Armory site.

You should be able to grab the latest version now.

wow-guild will be receiving similar treatment in the near future.

wow-armory 2.4 Release

Tuesday, March 3rd, 2009

Hot on the heels of the last rapidly released updates, here comes version 2.4 of the wow-armory! Sorry for everyone for making you update so frequently, but I think you will like this release:

No more AJAX calls! Everything is now tied into one PHP file. I love me some AJAX, but it just wasn’t working out for this plugin that well.

Data grabbed from the Armory is now Cached! This should reduce the amount of out-going traffic from your site to the Armory, and, should the Armory be down or inaccessible (maintenance, whatever), if possible, each widget will try to use it’s most recently cached data to display – so you shouldn’t see the “Armory Unvailable” message hardly at all anymore.

Improvements to wow-armory plugin + Linkbacks + Styles

Friday, February 27th, 2009

I’ve made some improvements to the wow-armory plugin:

Talents: You can now display your talent build. This option can be disabled per widget. You will see a link to your Talent in the Armory, displayed as “X / Y / Z”, where X, Y, and Z are the points spent in your First, second and third tree respectively. I’m not sure if the Armory will change to show your Dual-specs after patch 3.1, but I can change this if it does. Also, you’ll see the icon for your spec – if you have more talents in “Beast Mastery”, for example, you’ll see that icon.

Linkbacks: I have added an option to display a link back to my site. I debated for awhile how I can help get the word out on my addons, and this was, I believe, the best solution. This is completely optional, and it should default to “No”, so no one will show any links unless they choose to enable the option. Both the wow-armory and wow-guild plugin have this feature. You can turn on the linkbacks on a per-widget basis, or within shortcodes using linkback="1"

The link looks like this: powered_by

Shortcodes: You can use the shortcode:

Character portrait
of -US or EU
Level

You must have at least the char, realm, and realmtype specified.
