Improvements to wow-armory plugin + Linkbacks + Styles

Friday, February 27th, 2009

I’ve made some improvements to the wow-armory plugin:

Talents: You can now display your talent build. This option can be disabled per widget. You will see a link to your Talent in the Armory, displayed as “X / Y / Z”, where X, Y, and Z are the points spent in your First, second and third tree respectively. I’m not sure if the Armory will change to show your Dual-specs after patch 3.1, but I can change this if it does. Also, you’ll see the icon for your spec – if you have more talents in “Beast Mastery”, for example, you’ll see that icon.

Linkbacks: I have added an option to display a link back to my site. I debated for awhile how I can help get the word out on my addons, and this was, I believe, the best solution. This is completely optional, and it should default to “No”, so no one will show any links unless they choose to enable the option. Both the wow-armory and wow-guild plugin have this feature. You can turn on the linkbacks on a per-widget basis, or within shortcodes using linkback="1"

The link looks like this: powered_by

Shortcodes: You can use the shortcode:

Character portrait
of -US or EU
Level

You must have at least the char, realm, and realmtype specified.

Future Plans

Wednesday, December 17th, 2008

I’ve been planning to build a new, clean Wordpress Theme from scratch to use for my Blog for awhile… I think I’m going to spend some time bringing that to fruition soon.
I know there are already tons of Themes out there, but none of them really fit with how I want the site to look… as it stands right now, things are more than a little cluttered, and hard to find. Hopefully, I’ll come up with something better.
Also, I’ve started working on re-coding my LeaveMeAlone Addon to use LibDataBroker. Whenever I finally get that finished, I’ll post the finished version here.

Tutorial: Show D&D Icon Font on Page using FLIR

Tuesday, October 14th, 2008

I was playing with some options for my D&D Adventure, and was getting annoyed by one of the oldest, and most annoying limitations in web technology: fonts. Specifically, I have a font that is made up soley of the 4E Icons for Attacks and stuff, and could not get it to appear at all. There’s never been a simple way to get a font to show up on your page that the visitor does not already have installed. I tried making images out of the font, but couldn’t get the size or the placement to work correctly.  It was very frustrating.  I think I ended up posting my Titanic Shark using the images I had made, but it stopped working after I moved hosts.

Then, earlier in the week, I came across an article that talked about something called FLIR.  Impressed, and a little jealous that I had not thought of that technique before, back when I was dabbling in GD for a WoW Signature application that I started, but never finished, I decided to give it a try.  Unfortunately, neither the article itself, nor the documentation for FLIR was detailed enough to allow me to circumvent a few minor pitfalls without experementing, so I thought I would share what I learned.  Hopefully it will help anyone else out there with a D&D Blog or website.

Update

Wednesday, October 1st, 2008

So, here we are at my new host. So far everything seems to be working nicely, although there are a few items that I’ve removed for simplicity. I thought I might take this time to kind of readdress this site and see where I should go.

D&D Stuff

Thursday, September 18th, 2008

I had been trying to run a D&D campaign for many months now (actually, probably close to 2 years), and over the last couple of months, the game has sort of grown stagnant, and dried up – because everyone always has stuff going on, and life is too busy, mostly.  I’ve been trying to get the game back on track, but it’s been very difficult to do – whenever one person is able to make it, someone else can’t, and vice-versa.  Since it’s a small group of players (just 3 players, plus me, the DM, and one of the players lives with me), we can’t really play if one of the people can’t make it, so I’ve been feeling more and more like we just weren’t going to be able to finish up the campaign.

Shut up! Sit your ass down in that chair and drink your GODDAMN tea!

Monday, July 21st, 2008

Well, it took me a long time to finally obtain a working copy, but I’ve begun playing through FFVII again, at long last. For years I would find myself thinking back to when I first played it, back in 1997, while I was still in High school. I would remember the story, the characters, some of the events, and even running around Morphing monster to collect Elixirs for the enemies in the last area. Other than Final Fantasy Mystic Quest, which was sort of a simplified RPG, and games like the pre-N64 Zelda series, FFVII was really the first game I had played that I would consider a ‘true’ console RPG.

Status

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

Things have been a bit hectic lately, and promise to only get worse before they get better.

The baby’s first birthday is tomorrow… I know I can hardly believe it… We took her to the mall on Sunday to meet up with Grandma and Grandpa, and get her pictures taken.  The picture place was a madhouse of people, and not enough employees.  She was getting cranky and tired, and we were afraid it would be impossible to get any good pictures of her, but when she got in the room and sat down on the floor, she thought it was the greatest thing ever, and we ended up with a ton of awesome pictures, which were hard to choose the best from.

For her party, which is going to be on Sunday, we need to super-clean the house (which is partially ready…)  I’m making a layered carrot cake with cream cheese icing, and we’re filling the house with balloons – she has no idea what she’s in for :P

I’ve been signed up to work on a site (or series of sites) for a guy who is really into politics.  The concept is to have a place where people can post video or audio of politicians giving speeches, or whatever, and allow people to comment on them, and discuss them.  It’s not really my thing, but it’s a chance to make some extra cash.  Unfortunately, it seems like it’s going to be a lot more work than I originally thought…   You can check out the first site here: http://www.senatortalk.com – although it probably doesn’t look like much, yet.

Louisa and I have started working on Yet Another New Project, but one that’s shaping up to be very, very promising.  I don’t want to talk about it much yet, but it’s pretty exciting.  We’re planning to just sign up for a free Wordpress Blog site through Wordpress, at least for now, rather than attempt to deal with x10, or any other free host…   Once we kick things off, you’ll be seeing a lot more stuff on this site about it.

Well, that’s all the news for now! Later!
