Improvements to wow-armory plugin + Linkbacks + Styles

Friday, February 27th, 2009

I’ve made some improvements to the wow-armory plugin:

Talents: You can now display your talent build. This option can be disabled per widget. You will see a link to your Talent in the Armory, displayed as “X / Y / Z”, where X, Y, and Z are the points spent in your First, second and third tree respectively. I’m not sure if the Armory will change to show your Dual-specs after patch 3.1, but I can change this if it does. Also, you’ll see the icon for your spec – if you have more talents in “Beast Mastery”, for example, you’ll see that icon.

Linkbacks: I have added an option to display a link back to my site. I debated for awhile how I can help get the word out on my addons, and this was, I believe, the best solution. This is completely optional, and it should default to “No”, so no one will show any links unless they choose to enable the option. Both the wow-armory and wow-guild plugin have this feature. You can turn on the linkbacks on a per-widget basis, or within shortcodes using linkback="1"

The link looks like this: powered_by

Shortcodes: You can use the shortcode:

Character portrait
of -US or EU
Level

You must have at least the char, realm, and realmtype specified.

Conflicts

Wednesday, February 18th, 2009

It has been brought to my attention that my plugins seem to be having conflicts with certain other Plugins – specificially, it seems, with gallery-type plugins. I’m trying to compile a list of plugins that are giving people trouble, so if you notice a conflict, please let me know so I can try to fix it in a later release.
Also, I am planning on a new release for wow-armory soon, which will allow you to specify which language you would like the tooltips to be displayed in (you can choose from any of the languages available on Wowhead). If anyone would like to help me translate other parts of my plugins (the other text, the widget configurations, etc) please let me know.

On Hold

Monday, February 9th, 2009

Thanks to the sudden, surprise explosion of my computer at work, many of my projects are on hold until I can get things back into working order again. Notably, my wow-guild WP Plugin, which has been started, but is not yet ready for release, will probably be pushed back another week or two.
A certain other project of which I cannot speak is also on hold for a day or two, but this project will take precedence over the others. More details as they become available.

Spored

Saturday, January 31st, 2009

2364860198_4f98527f1bWhen i first learned of Mr Wright’s ambitious project, a few years ago in a blurry, Google video (before they bought YouTube), I was understandably excited.

Years later, Spore was released, and just the other day, I was able to finally pick it up and start playing.

I started up a new game, made my little carnivorous organism, and ate my way through to the top of the food chain. I enjoyed most every part of the game, and I’m still playing through the Space Age, and starting an occasional new creature now and again.

TrinkerI thought it would be interesting to break down some items of this game that I like, and those I don’t like. Since this is *meant* to be a Blog about Worldcrafting and Game Design, it might be useful. At the very least, it’ll be fun, and give me an excuse to show off some of my creations :)

Catastrophic Failure

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

Things always seem to fall apart at the worst times…

Our hot water heater started shooting sparks the other day, so we deduced that we needed to replace the upper element. After flooding the house with scalding hot water, and then wrestling with the old element, which had been the wrong kind to begin with (someone had bent, and twisted, and crammed the old element to make it fit…), we replaced it, turned on the water, and then later turned on the power, only to have the whole thing burst with hot water from the emergency pressure valve, and flood the house again.

More Changes and Future Plugins

Tuesday, January 20th, 2009

I like this Theme – iNove by mg12, but there are a few things that I think I want to change. I’m not going to make a whole new theme, since I tried that and failed, so I think I’m just going to edit and tweak this theme to make it look how I want.
If things start breaking, I’m sorry, and I plan to be done with the changes soon.

Also, I have a few Plugins made by other people which seem to work, but not as well as I would like, or do not have as much customization as I would like.
I think I’m going to attempt to make my own versions of these plugins, and see what I can come up with.
Notably, my Twitter plugin at the top-right, and my Last.fm Recently Listened plugin on the right.
I expect to share the finished product with the world, once I have them finished. I’ve learned a lot from working on my wow-armory plugin, and rather than tweak it to death, I’d rather make new ones. Anyone else have any suggestions for plugins? Let me know, and I’ll see what I can do.

WoW Armory WP Plugin

Monday, December 29th, 2008

I’ve created a Wordpress Plugin, called (creatively) wow-armory.
You can see it in action over on the right.
This is my first attempt at a real Plugin, and I’m fairly happy with it… also, delving into the realm of PHP, AJAX, and XML again after a long absence has started me thinking about other applications… unfortunately, I’ve become familiar with the fact that these ideas will never happen…
Anyway, if you use Wordpress, and would like to use this Plugin, you can download it from Wordpress.org, here.

Note: Please comment on the wow-armory WP Plugin Page, so I can keep track of my replies better. Thanks!
